The invitation will be extended: Susan Boyle is more than welcome to appear on the American version of the talent show that shot her into stardom.

The Scottish woman who became a media darling on “Britain’s Got Talent” just might show up on NBC’s talent show, “America’s Got Talent.”

“If she’s up for it and she is well enough,” says Piers Morgan, a judge on both shows. “Our feeling is she probably will [appear on AGT]. Absolutely!”

He said Simon Cowell, who helps produce both shows, wants Boyle to come to America.

And even if that doesn’t happen, he promised reporters that the new season of the American version – which debuts June 23 – will reflect the Susan Boyle Effect.

“From the time (“Britain’s Got Talent”) aired in Britain, thousands more people auditioned in America. She had a big effect on auditions,” Morgan said. “There will be two or three acts who could have the same impact. After one group performs, there won’t be a dry eye in the house.”

He said he and fellow judges David Hasselhoff and Sharon Osbourne won’t know the contestants before they compete, just like they didn’t know Boyle’s story before she first stood in front of them and wowed them.

“If we knew Susan Boyle had a voice like an angel, we wouldn’t have been condescending to her. It’s very important to the integrity of the show that the judges not get any warning,” he said.

He was just a little excited about the possibility of Boyle appearing on the American show. “Susan singing live to 25 million Americans? That would be great!” he said. “She still gets a bit tired sometimes, but she is 48.”

Forty-eight old?

Let’s hope they let her on the plane with her hearing aid and cane.

Ink Blot Mazes is a really cool resource for mazes.
Many of the mazes are of celebrities or of some famous piece of artwork. Others are just plain famous pictures from the press or media.

This is a maze of monkeys jumping off roof tops. It took something like 20 hour to draw this one, and it probably can be solved in about 1-4 minutes. Totally worth it 🙂

500 new citizens welcomed at Q150 celebrations

Brisbane has welcomed more than 500 new Australian citizens who helped launch Queensland Week celebrations on Saturday morning.

Friends and family packed out South Bank’s Suncorp Piazza as the state’s newest citizens made a pledge of commitment to their newly-adopted state and nation.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman told ABC Radio it was cause for a double celebration.

“I think it’s particularly special for people that they’re not only becoming Australian citizens but they’re doing it on Queensland’s special day.

“(They are) joining a great state and a fantastic city and I think that’s something to be particularly excited about.”

Saturday is Queensland Day, which commemorates Queen Victoria’s signing of Letters Patent separating Queensland from the colony of New South Wales 150 years ago in 1859.

This year’s Queensland Week celebrations over the Queen’s Birthday weekend include the state’s biggest variety show and a free barbecue.

The variety show, featuring 2,500 state school students, will be held on Saturday night at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre while on Sunday, thousands are expected to pack out the Queensland Week Big BBQ at Roma Street Parklands.

Sunday’s celebrations will also feature performances from Dora the Explorer, inflatable mazes, face painting, balloon artists, displays and workshops from 10.30am (AEST) to 3.30pm (AEST).

Also part of the Q150 program will be a free night of comedy at the Suncorp Piazza on Sunday night from 7.30pm (AEST).

Comedy Fix will bring together comedians, including lyrical trio Tripod, Charlie Pickering and Queensland’s own The Kransky Sisters, for a night of stand-up and satire.

The 2009 Suncorp Queenslanders of the Year will be announced on June 9 followed by the 2009 Queensland Greats Awards two days later.

Handheld Games is bringing 1984 classic Marble Madness to the iPhone, in association with Midway.

True to the original, it’ll feature six levels of mazes that you have to navigate through to find the exit within a time limit. Aside from the standard oldie mode, there will also be a handful of new modes on offer, plus the option to use revamped visuals.

The new modes are based on various different types of race, including ‘Targets’ and ‘Flag’, where you have to roll over targets and weave between flags respectively. We don’t have any screenshots to show you at the moment, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as any additional information shows up.

Handheld games was responsible for the iPhone sports game TouchSports Tennis ’09, and is working on a handful of other games due for release in the coming months including the shooter Lock ‘n Load.

What is a Blivet?

Blivet

This blivet portrays two irreconcilable perspectives at once, creating a “lost” layer between the top two rods, and an impossible extra, vanishing rod in between the bottom two.

A blivet, also known as a poiuyt, is an undecipherable figure, an optical illusion and an impossible object. It appears to have three cylindrical prongs at one end which then mysteriously transform into two rectangular prongs at the other end.

In its most common usage, the blivet is an indecipherable figure, illustrated above. It appeared on the March 1965 cover of Mad magazine, where it was dubbed the “poiuyt” (the last six letters on the top row of many Latin-script typewriter keyboards, right to left), and has appeared numerous times since then. An anonymously-contributed version described as a “hole location gauge” was printed in the June 1964 issue of Analog Science Fiction and Fact, with the comment that “this outrageous piece of draftsmanship evidently escaped from the Finagle & Diddle Engineering Works”

In traditional U.S. Army slang dating back to the Second World War, a blivet was defined as “ten pounds of manure in a five pound bag” (a proverbial description of anything egregiously ugly or unmanageable); it was applied to an unmanageable situation, a crucial but substandard or damaged tool, or a self-important person. In Cormac McCarthy‘s All the Pretty Horses, Rawlins defines a blivet as “10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag”. During the Vietnam War, a heavy rubber bladder in which aviation fuel or POL (petroleum, oil, and lubricants) was transported was known as a blivet, as was anything which, once unpacked, could not be replaced in its container. The usage of blivet for a fuel container is still current. A recent request for quotation (‘Solicitation number W91B4P-07-Q-0615 titled “Fuel Point Bill of Materials”‘) in Afghanistan includes a line item for “10 50,000 gal. blivets” .

In various United States Air Force communities (e.g. Strategic Air Command), blivet may have referred to what are euphemistically called “Special Weapons” whose presence are officially neither confirmed nor denied. Usage apparently derived from the original cavalry definition.

In some areas of the U.S., it refers to a juvenile prank, clearly connected with the original military usage: a sack full of excrement is ignited on the victim’s porch, while the pranksters ring the doorbell and run. The victim attempts to put the flames out by stamping on the bag. This may also be related to the term’s claimed use as military slang for a land mine, not well-documented.

In Naval Aviation, a blivet is the common term for an external baggage container carried on a tactical jet.

[edit] Technological usage

Among computer programmers, a blivet refers to any embarrassing glitch that pops up during a customer demonstration. Among computer security specialists, it can refer to a denial-of-service attack performed by monopolizing limited resources that have no access controls (for example, shared spool space on a multi-user system). There are other meanings in other technical cultures; among experimental physicists and hardware engineers it may designate any random object of unknown purpose (similar to hackers’ use of frob).

Early versions of Adobe Photoshop used a blivet on the plugin icon.

An early version of the Microsoft logo had the letter “o” formed with several horizontal lines and was internally known as the blivet ^[1]

The word blivet is sometimes used as a cadigan. In economics, the term may be used (like “widget“) for some hypothetical product. Butler Manufacturing Services Ltd, in Longford, Ireland, has used the trade name “BMS Blivet” for over 15 years for their compact “all in one” sewage treatment plant.
